Wilmington is a modern and full-service container port offering a full range of container terminal facilities and capabilities. The Port has 50-ton capacity container cranes as well as a new 100-ton mobile harbor crane with cycling capability of 35 containers per hour, plus container yard handling equipment such as "top picks" and transtainers. |

Over 50 acres of container storage land are available to serve the Port's two container carriers, Dole Fresh Fruit Company and Great White White Fleet, Ltd., equipped with reefer plugs, TIR Gate facilities and warehouses for stuffing, stripping and "swing loading" of containerized freight.
Weekly container service between Wilmington and Central American ports is offered by Dole Ocean Cargo Express and Great White Fleet Ltd. Northbound service for refrigerated cargoes is also offered by Dole and Chiquita, utilizing their modern full container vessels.
In addition, Pacific Seaways provides containerizes service to and from Chile between December and April.
In 2011, the Port of Wilmington handled more than 1.75 million tons of containerized cargo, including imports (mostly bananas and tropical fruit) and exports. Total container throughput reached 189,940 TEU's.
