The Captain Harry was named after Captain Harry H. Rowland, Sr., who founded Wilmington Tug in 1965.  She was designed by naval architect Robert Allan of Vancouver, British Columbia, and built by Washburn and Doughty of East Booth Bay, Maine.

The new tug has greater escorting capabilities for larger vessels compared with Wilmington Tug’s five other tractor tugs, due to her twin Detroit Diesel 2,100 hp engines driving a Rolls Royce Z-Drive propulsion system. Captain Harry is 80 ft. long, has a 32 ft. beam and achieves speed up to 12.5 knots. “We built Captain Harry to serve larger vessels with greater safety and efficiency”, remarks Wilmington Tug President H. Hickman Rowland, Jr.

Founded in 1923, the Port of Wilmington is an important asset for the local and regional economy, generating more than 5,800 jobs and contributing over $22 million in annual tax revenues to State and local government.  The Port is owned and operated by the Diamond State Port Corporation, a corporation of the State of Delaware.  For further information, digital photos, free tours of the Port and free speakers contact:
