No Cargo too Big to Handle at the Port of Wilmington

Wilmington, Del. - The Port of Wilmington, Delaware handled a special project shipment of a large, cold, high-pressure separator on Sunday, January 15, 2006.  The separator will be used at the local Valero Energy Corporation refinery in Delaware City to replace a vessel at the refinery's hydrocracker. The 223-ton unit was unloaded from the m/v Da Zhong by the local stevedoring company Murphy Marine Services, using the ship's cranes, onto a barge for transport. It was moved by barge from the Port of Wilmington to Delaware City via the C & D Canal. The cylinder shaped separator was fabricated in Italy and measures approximately 43 ft. in length and 13 ft. in diameter, and was shipped from the Port of Marina Di Carrara, Italy.
