#1 US Gateway for Juice Concentrate Imports Welcomes
M/V Premium do Brasil on Her Maiden Voyage

Wilmington, DE Port of Wilmington staff, Citrosuco North America and maritime community representatives will celebrate the arrival of M/V Premium do Brasil, on her maiden voyage to Wilmington on Friday, October 10, 2003. M/V Premium do Brasil is a newly built state-of-the-art tanker that is capable of carrying more than 33,000 tons of fresh juice. The ship was built for Citrosuco and its shipping line, Maritime Services Aleuropa GmbH, and will carry Brazilian orange juice to the U.S. East Coast and to Europe.

During her current voyage, M/V Premium do Brasil loaded cargo in Santos, Brazil, and discharged juice at Port Manatee, FL prior to coming to Wilmington. In Wilmington, she will discharge approximately 1.4 million gallons of frozen orange juice concentrate, which is equivalent to 22.4 million glasses of juice for the U.S. and Canadian markets.

Established in 1963, Citrosuco is one of the world's largest processors of oranges and producers of orange juice. The company has developed technologies for complete utilization of the oranges for production of orange juice starting at the citrus groves in Brazil and all the way through distribution to their customers. Citrosuco North America is their North American sales and operating entity and they have been operating a bulk juice storage terminal at the Port of Wilmington, Delaware since 1984.

Citrosuco’s terminal at the Port is one of the largest juice concentrates terminal storage facility in North America. The employment of this very capable vessel demonstrates Citrosuco’s continuing commitment to the juice trade and its customers as this ship is multipurpose and can carry cargoes of both fresh orange juice as well as frozen juice concentrate.

M/V Premium do Brasil and M/V Carlos Fischer its sister ship were built in the Kelven Flore AS shipyard in west Norway and was commissioned in August 2003. The vessel is classified as a four hold refrigerated ship rather than a tanker, because she has 16 vertically positioned cylinder juice tanks for storage of fresh juice and juice concentrate at between -10°C and - 0°C. M/V Premium do Brasil also has storage capacity for up to 500 20 ft. long shipping containers on-deck, of which 75 can be refrigerated. This capability is designed to help balance her operating cost, as juice tankers tend to sail empty on their return voyage. With a Wartsila Sulzer 7 RTA 84 C main engine delivering 28,500 kW at 102mm, the ship has a service speed of 20.8 km, enabling her to maintain tight schedules. She is 672.08 ft. long, on draft of 31.16 ft. deep.

“I welcome Premium do Brasil, its captain and crew to the Port of Wilmington. This magnificent ship will play an important role in growing Citrosuco’s global juice trade. We are honored to host her on her maiden voyage”, said Gene R. Bailey, Diamond State Port Corp’s Executive Director.

Founded in 1923, the Port of Wilmington is an important asset for the local and regional economy, generating more than 5,800 jobs and contributing over $18 million in annual tax revenues to State and local government.  The Port is owned and operated by the Diamond State Port Corporation, a corporation of the State of Delaware.
