Port Employees Collect Holiday Donations
for Delaware’s Needy Families

Two Port of Wilmington employees recently collected over $400 from terminal workers to donate to poor and needy families in Delaware’s three counties for the holiday.

The Diamond State Port Corporation, which owns and operates the Port, matched these donations and will contribute Holiday food baskets for families in need, throughout Delaware.

Initiators of this outreach effort, Supervisor Richard Smith and Robert Dodson of ILA Local 1694-1, are both long-time Port of Wilmington employees, who over the years have taken it upon themselves to organize fund-raising at the Port for various charitable causes.

Founded in 1923, the Port of Wilmington is an important asset for the local and regional economy, generating over 4,900 jobs and contributing over $16 million in annual tax revenues to State and local government.  The Port is owned and operated by the Diamond State Port Corporation, a corporation of the State of Delaware.  For further information, digital photos, free tours of the Port and free speakers contact: Vered Nohi-Becker, Marketing Services Manager at the Port of Wilmington @ (302) 472-7819, e-mail: vnbecker@port.state.de.us
