Australian Beef Imports thru Wilmington
Just in Time for the Summer Grilling Season

Wilmington, Del.– Beef for hamburgers, steaks and roasts began arriving at the Port of Wilmington just in time for the unofficial start of summer and the cookout and grilling season. C&S Shipping (C&S), which operates jointly with LauritzenCool AB of Sweden, Seatrade Group NV of Belgium, and Eastwind Shipping began its sixth season at the Port of Wilmington, its exclusive Mid-Atlantic port for discharge, storage and distribution of Australian beef imports. From Delaware, the beef from “down under” is distributed to meat processing plants throughout the U.S. and the Canadian East Coast and as far as the U.S. Mid-West, where it is used, among other end products, to make tasty hamburgers. Excellent meat products and superior port services helped C&S attract some of the leading meat receivers in the U.S. As a result, the Port of Wilmington has become the nation’s number one port of entry for palletized frozen beef.

Shown above, the C&S conventional refrigerated vessel, m/v Glorious Harvest, commenced the 2005-2006 season at the Port of Wilmington in May. After discharging 4,573 tons of frozen Aussie beef from the ports of Townsville, Mackay, and Port Alma, the cargo was scanned into the Port’s web based inventory management system; underwent a thorough quality inspection by USDA; and was stored for distribution in the Port’s complex of freezer warehouses, the largest of any port in the U.S.

Founded in 1923, the Port of Wilmington is an important asset for the local and regional economy, generating more than 5,300 jobs and contributing over $23d operated by the Diamond State Port Corporation,
a corporation of the State of Delaware.
