Joseph G. DiPinto


Joseph G. DiPinto was confirmed by Delaware Senate as a new member of the Diamond State Port Corporation’s (DSPC) Board on June 30, 2009.

Mr. DiPinto was appointed Director of Wilmington’s Office of Economic Development by Mayor James M. Baker in August 2006, following his retirement from the Delaware State House of Representatives. Prior, DiPinto served on the Wilmington City Council from 1973 through 1986, and as a Representative in Delaware’s General Assembly from 1987 through 2006.  He chaired the Housing and Community Affairs and Appropriation Committees and was the co-chair of the budget-writing Joint Finance Committee for eight years.


An appointee to Delaware’s Science and Technology Council, the Delaware Commission on Italian Heritage and Culture, the Greater Wilmington Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, and the Livable Delaware Advisory Council, DiPinto is also President of the Wilmington UDAG Corporation. In addition, he serves on the boards of the following organizations: The Wilmington Renaissance Corp., Downtown Visions, Wilmington Economic Development Corporation, Main Street, Christiana Gateway and Brandywine Gateway Corporations, Ministry of Caring, Sacred Heart Village, and the Advisory Boards of the Ronald McDonald House, the Regional Salvation Army and the World Trade Center, Inc.

Mr. DiPinto has been recognized with the following awards during his career: the 1996 Nature Conservancy Public Service Award; the 2001 Friends of Retired Educators’ Award; the 2003 Amicus Curiae Award for Distinguished Public Service from the Superior Court of the State of Delaware; the 2005 Delaware Commission on Community and Volunteer Service Award; the 2006 Easter Seals Award for Dedicated Service to People with Disabilities; the 2006 Ministry of Caring Sister Gildea Award for a lifetime of Public Service; the Catholic Charities 2007 Msgr. Thomas J. Reese Award for Commitment to Community Service; and the Delaware Bioscience Association 2008 Leadership Award.
